Cloudia Oy procurement suite
Cloudia's platform covered the procurement lifecycle, including sourcing, contracts and supplier management; at the time of Mercell's acquisition, it had 250,000+ users and 1.1 million customer contracts.

problem
Procurement is inherently complex. Cloudia supported organisations through multiple stages of the procurement lifecycle—from sourcing and tendering to contracts and supplier management. But the product experience had evolved across different services, workflows, and user needs. The challenge How might we make a complex procurement ecosystem feel like one coherent, scalable product?
solution
The solution was a connected, digitalized procurement SaaS ecosystem I worked across the Cloudia suite to create a consistent experience across the end-to-end procurement lifecycle. Connecting the lifecycle Planning → Kilpailutus → Sourcing → Evaluation → Contracts → Supplier Management The goal was to make these capabilities feel like one connected product, rather than a collection of separate procurement tools.
Designing a scalable procurement experience for one of Finland's leading e-Procurement platforms
Role: Principal UX Designer
Focus: UX Strategy · Product Design · Service Design · Design Systems · SaaS
Scale: 250K+ users · 1.1M customer contracts

My role
I led UX across the Cloudia product ecosystem, working with product, engineering and procurement experts.
My work included:
UX strategy and product direction
Information architecture
End-to-end procurement workflows
Complex enterprise interactions
Design system and reusable patterns
Usability testing and validation
Cross-product UX consistency
The approach
01 — Understand the procurement ecosystem
I mapped how procurement professionals move through the complete lifecycle:
Plan → Source → Evaluate → Contract → Manage
This helped identify where users switched between services, repeated information or lost context.
02 — Design around the user's workflow
Rather than treating each Cloudia product as an isolated application, I designed the experience around the procurement journey.
This meant creating continuity between:
Sourcing → Supplier responses → Evaluation → Contract → Contract lifecycle
For example, procurement information could flow from sourcing into contract management, reducing duplicate work and maintaining context across the lifecycle.
The solution
A connected procurement SaaS ecosystem
I worked across the Cloudia suite to create a consistent experience across the end-to-end procurement lifecycle.
Planning: Plan procurement activities, requirements, and upcoming sourcing needs.
Kilpailutus / Sourcing: Create, manage and run competitive tendering processes.
Supplier experience: Enable suppliers to discover opportunities, respond to tenders and manage submissions.
Evaluation: Structure evaluation criteria, scoring and supplier comparison.
Contracts: Turn procurement outcomes into structured contracts and manage them throughout their lifecycle.
Dashboard & supporting services: Give users a central view of procurement activity, tasks, and important information.

Designing for enterprise complexity
Procurement software contains:
Rules · Regulations · Data · Roles · Permissions · Workflows · Exceptions
The UX challenge was to make this complexity manageable without hiding information users needed to make informed decisions.
I focused on:
Progressive disclosure: Show complexity when it becomes relevant.
Clear information hierarchy: Help users understand where they are and what matters.
Reusable patterns: Create consistent interactions across a large product ecosystem.
Workflow continuity: Preserve context as users move between procurement stages.
Design system
As the product suite grew, consistency became increasingly important.
I helped establish reusable:
Components → Patterns → Interaction rules → Design principles
The design system allowed teams to design and build new capabilities without reinventing common interactions.
It also created a shared language between design, product and engineering.

Outcome
The work contributed to a more coherent, scalable SaaS experience across Cloudia's procurement ecosystem.
The platform ultimately served 250,000+ users and 1.1 million customer contracts, and Cloudia was acquired by Mercell for €102.5 million in 2021.
My contribution
I helped turn complex procurement workflows into structured, usable and scalable digital experiences—balancing the needs of procurement professionals, suppliers, business stakeholders and technical teams.
What I learned
Enterprise UX is systems thinking.
The hardest problems weren't individual screens.
They were the connections between:
People → Processes → Products → Data → Regulations
Designing those connections is what makes a complex enterprise product feel simple.
The takeaway
Good enterprise UX doesn't remove complexity.
It makes complexity understandable and actionable.
